Ashford University began in 1918 as a liberal arts school. Originally Asford was named Mount St. Clare College and in 2002 they updated their name to the Franciscan University, later in 2005 after acquiring Bridgeport Education the school was named Ashford. The mission of this university is to create diverse and intellectually inclined students who are in tuned to their degrees. They do this with expert staff and affordable yet innovative course structure. A virtual education is ideal for professionals who are already working and can only attend classes at night.

The Higher Learning Commission accredited Ashford University and this school is also a member of North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. HLC is approved as a regular accrediting agency by the US Dept. of Education and also CHEA. Ashford routinely gives out financial aid to those students who require it and also have a full time career service to help graduated students find employment.
